Cultivate your mindset to success
Mindset is talked about a lot these days; you need the mindset for this and the mindset for that, and you need the right mindset for investing in property.
Going in with a half-hearted attitude or giving up at the first challenge is not what property investment is about.
Investing in property is within many people’s reach, so what’s stopping you?
Here are some tips to cultivate your mindset and set you on the way to success.
Believe you can to it
First and foremost, you need to believe you can invest in property. Do your sums, speak to a financial specialist, and if they say you can afford to do it, then you can!
Forget your fears
People will tell you plenty of reasons why you shouldn’t invest in property. The market will crash. What happens if your financial situation changes or you can’t get tenants? Or supposing you get bad tenants?
Yes, like every investment there are some risks involved, but just to allay some of your fears. The market does go up and down, but remember, property investment is long term and you sit out the downward turns. We’ve been in the business for over 40 years and it’s worked OK for us!
If you’ve done due diligence, you will have planned for a change in your financial situation, and make sure to use an agent to take the stress out of managing your property and find you good tenants.
So, don’t let your fears stop you. And don’t let other people’s fears stop you either!
Buy with your head
When you’re buying a home, you’re thinking about where you want to live. You may like quirky and old or living out in the country, but when you’re investing in a property, you’re thinking about mass appeal and practicalities.
Your ‘buying mindset’ is to look at a property with your head and your long-term aims, not with your heart and where you’d like to live.
Prepare to be patient
There will be frustrating times. You can’t find the right property or there’s a hold up with the paperwork. Be patient. It doesn’t matter if you can’t find the right property this week or you lose out on what you think was the perfect property; there will be a better one round the corner.
Visualise your end goal
Be it retiring early, or working part time, saving for a cruise or the kids’ education, remembering your end goal will keep your mind focused on what needs to be done.
Stay focused and positive
Sometimes it’s easier said than done, but stay focused and positive. Surround yourself with positive, trusted experts. Speak to your accountant and get good financial advice off an experienced professional. Their experience and reassurance if you’ve got queries and/or concerns will help give you a boost.
